Help, contact and answers to common questions about PraxisMD Journal Scan.
Frequently asked questions
How does Journal Scan pick the articles in my feed?
We index PubMed weekly and surface only papers published in a curated allowlist of major journals (The Lancet, NEJM, JAMA, BMJ, Annals of Internal Medicine, Nature Medicine, plus specialty-specific tier-1 publications). A clinician-curated layer adds society guidelines and pivotal trials that PubMed's automated filters miss. We never auto-include preprints or non-allowlisted journals in your rolling feed.
Is the brief written by a human or by AI?
Each brief is generated by a large language model from the article's published abstract, then projected into a fixed structured template (design, key outcomes, headline graphic, bottom line, methods detail, limitations). The clinician identity fields — title, journal, year, authors, DOI — are copied verbatim from PubMed and never inferred. Every brief flags itself as a triage tool and includes a "verify against the source" caveat. The full source DOI is one tap away.
I'm not receiving the weekly digest push.
Run through the following in order:
- Open the app → Account → confirm Weekly digest is toggled on. If you have just toggled it on, no digest arrives until the next Sunday cycle.
- iOS Settings → Notifications → Journal Scan → confirm Allow Notifications is on. If you previously denied the prompt the toggle here defaults to off and the app cannot re-prompt.
- You will only receive a digest if there are new articles this week in at least one of your selected specialties. A quiet week is normal.
- If none of the above resolve it, email us with your account email and the specialties you have selected — we can check the cron log for your account directly.
How do I delete my account?
Open the app → Account → Delete account → confirm. Your account, your selected specialties, and any push notification registration are permanently removed immediately. This action cannot be undone; a future sign-in with the same email will create a fresh account with empty state.
I can't sign in / I forgot my password.
On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password and enter
your account email. You will receive a password-reset email
from noreply@praxismdpub.com within a minute
(check spam if not). The reset link is valid for one hour.
If you no longer have access to that email address, contact
us and we can verify your identity another way.
Can I export a brief to PDF?
Yes. On any brief, tap the share icon in the top bar → Save PDF. The PDF is a print-ready single page with the full brief and the source citation. It is generated on your device, never uploaded.
Is Journal Scan a substitute for reading the original paper?
No. Journal Scan is a triage tool — it helps you decide which papers to read in full and to keep aware of what is being published in your specialty. Briefs are not a substitute for the source publication, are not a diagnostic aid, and are not a treatment recommendation. Verify any finding against the original journal article and your own clinical judgement before acting on it.
What devices does Journal Scan support?
iPhone running iOS 16 or later. iPad is supported in iPhone compatibility mode. A native iPad layout and an Android version are on our roadmap.
I have a feature request.
We love hearing what would make the app more useful to you. Email us with as much detail as you can — what you are trying to do, what the app does today, and what would help.
